Alcohol

Patients wishing to be advised about reducing or stopping their alcohol intake can make an appointment at Reception.  Alternatively patients can call 01925 428465 to self refer to the Warrington Alcohol Service.

Antenatal Clinic

If you are pregnant, you can self refer to the midwife by completing the self referral form via the Warrington Maternity website or by telephoning 01925 662092, they will then arrange your Ante-Natal care.

Asthma Clinic

If you have Asthma or other breathing difficulties, such as COPD (Chronic Bronchitis or Emphysema) you will be sent a questionnaire to complete via a SMS text message when your review is due.  When the clinical team receives your responses they will advise whether a follow-up appointment is necessary.  Patients who do not have a mobile phone number will be contacted via telephone.

Blood Tests

Blood tests are carried out at the following locations – you must take a blood request form with you (over 16 only):

Warrington General Hospital, Lovely Lane Mon-Fri 9:00am-4:30pm  Call 01925 662011 to make an appointment.
Orford Park Clinic, Jubilee Drive Mon-Fri 8:30am-3:30pm  Call 01925 251463 to make an appointment.
Bath Street Health Centre, Legh Street Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:00pm Call 01925 843853 to make an appointment. (Lines open Mon-Fri 9:00am – 5:00pm)

Any patient under the age of 16 requiring a blood test should telephone Bath Street on 843 859/843 853 between the hours of 9am and 4pm and state for pediatric phlebotomy.Hours of operation are:Week 1 – 12.00 until 18.00 Monday and Wednesday, 10.00 until 18.00 on TuesdayWeek 2 – 12.00 until 1800 Wednesday and Friday and 10.00 until 17.00 on Thursday

NB: If you are having fasting bloods, please do not have anything to eat from 10pm the night before your appointment (however, you should drink plenty of water).  All medication can be taken as normal with the exception of insulin.

Blood Pressure Checks

Blood Pressure checks can be done by using the self-service machine in the waiting room or by appointment with the Health Care Assistant. If a hypertension check is required an invitation will be sent asking you to make an appointment. We encourage patients to purchase a home monitoring Blood Pressure machine from their local pharmacy or online (these cost as little as £15) to record their own blood pressure. 

Child Health Surveillance (Development checks)

6 – 8 weeks development checks are carried out by a Doctor.  Appointments are sent out for children to attend for their development checks at least one week before they are due.If you are unable to attend for the appointment, please let a Receptionist know so that we can cancel the appointment as these take up much more of a Doctor’s time than a routine appointment.  We will also then arrange for a new appointment to be sent out to you.

Cervical Cytology (Smears)

Cervical cancer can usually be prevented and having a smear test could save your life as the signs that it may develop can be spotted early on so it can be stopped before it even gets started. We offer the test to all women aged between 25 and 64.  Smear tests are taken by a Practice Nurse and are by appointment only.  Cervical screening: leaflet for women considering screening.

Diabetes Clinic

Patients who have Diabetes should be monitored on a regular basis and an SMS text or letter is sent periodically to patients inviting them to have their (patients who have more complicated conditions will be contacted more regularly).  During the appointment blood sugar checking and control, medication, and lifestyle will be discussed.

Before the appointment you will be required to have your bloods checked at least one week before the appointment so that the results of these can also be discussed during the appointment.

Patients can also self refer to a 6 week group diabetes programme looking at treatments, management of diabetes and opportunity to explore any problems/issues by telephoning 01925 251417.

Dietitian

If the Doctor or Nurse feels that you need specific dietary advice, a referral will be made for you to be seen by the Dietitian.

Family Planning

We do not currently hold a specific family planning clinic.  However, family planning advice can be obtained during normal surgery hours by appointment only from one of our Doctors.  Our services include coil/Implant fitting, checking and removal.  Patients can also attend one of the local Warrington clinics for contraception and sexual health advice Local contraception and sexual health clinic.  To request an appointment regarding family planning please speak to a member of the Reception team.

HPV vaccine

We offer the HPV vaccine to young girls between the age of 16 and 18.  A total of three vaccinations are given and a letter will be sent to the patient when the first injection is due.  The vaccines are administered on a strict named patient basis – we are unable to vaccinate patients to whom we have not sent an invitation letter.

Hypertension

Mental Health

Talking Matters Warrington‘ is a mental health service that provides assessment and treatment for people with common mental health conditions. They currently offer a self-referral pathway via the telephone 01925 401720 or online referral form at Talking Matters.  A 24/7 mental health crisis line for people in Halton, Knowsley, St Helens and Warrington is available by calling 0800 051 1508 (Freephone),

Stopping Smoking

A stop smoking service is available at the surgery.  Please speak to a Receptionist to book an appointment or visit Livewire for more information.

Travel Vaccinations

If you are travelling abroad please allow sufficient time (about 8-12 weeks) before your holiday to commence and complete your immunisations.  If you are planning a trip abroad and require travel vaccinations please refer to the following link for Travel Vaccinations before getting in touch with us.

As immunisation requirements vary from country to country, the Practice Nurse will look up the relevant information for you and be in touch to advise you as to which immunisations you will need.  We do not charge for most travel vaccinations, but there is a charge for vaccination certificates, and malaria tablets may need a private prescription.
