How we manage appointment requests
You can contact the practice to request an appointment by telephone or by submitting an online consultation.
All appointment requests are reviewed to make sure patients receive the right care as quickly as possible.
A member of the clinical team will look at your request. You may be offered a same-day appointment if your problem is urgent, or an appointment at a later date.
Your request may be dealt with in different ways, including:
-
Advice sent by text message or email
-
A telephone appointment
-
A face-to-face appointment
Not all problems need a GP appointment. You may be offered an appointment with another member of the team, such as a nurse, pharmacist, physiotherapist or healthcare assistant, if they are best placed to help you.
Our reception team will help guide you to the most appropriate service.
You can contact the practice online by submitting an online consultation.
This allows you to request medical advice, ask about symptoms, request sick notes, or contact us about administrative queries without needing to phone the surgery.
A member of our clinical team will review your request and respond with the most appropriate next step. This may include advice, a prescription, an appointment, or directing you to another service if appropriate.
Online consultations are available during practice opening hours.
Need medical help or advice?
Choose the option below that best matches the help you need.
Pharmacy First
Your local pharmacy can assess and treat some common conditions without needing a GP appointment.
This includes earache, sore throat, sinusitis, infected insect bites, impetigo, shingles and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women.
NHS 111
Use NHS 111 if you need medical help quickly and are not sure what to do next.
Use 111 online if you are aged 5 or over. For children under 5 please call 111.
Urgent Treatment Centres
Widnes & Runcorn are both open 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week.
They can treat urgent but non-life-threatening problems such as sprains, suspected broken bones, cuts, infections, rashes and high temperatures.
A&E
A&E is for serious injuries and life-threatening emergencies.
If you are unsure whether you need A&E, use NHS 111 first. In a life-threatening emergency call 999.
Runcorn Urgent Treatment Centre asks patients to arrive before 8pm to allow time to be seen before closing.
Additional GP and healthcare appointments are available during evenings and weekends through the South Warrington Primary Care Network Extended Access Service.
These appointments may take place at a different local GP practice, but your care will still be provided by experienced NHS clinicians who can access your medical record.
If you would like to book an evening or weekend appointment, please speak to our reception team.
Appointments are available Monday to Friday evenings and during weekends.
You can book, check or cancel some appointments online using the NHS App or your NHS account.
This allows you to:
-
Book certain routine appointments
-
Cancel appointments you no longer need
-
View details of your upcoming appointments
Not all appointments can be booked online. If you cannot find a suitable appointment, please contact the reception team who will help arrange the most appropriate care.
If you do not yet have access to the NHS App, you can register online or ask a member of the reception team for help.
Home visits are only available for patients who are housebound or too unwell to attend the surgery.
If you think you need a home visit, please contact the surgery before 10:00am if possible.
A doctor may call you back to assess your condition and decide whether a home visit is the most appropriate way to provide care.
Many problems can be assessed more effectively at the surgery, where we have access to better equipment and facilities.
If you are able to attend the practice, we will usually ask you to come to the surgery instead.
Our practice offers a wide range of services including long-term condition management, vaccinations, health checks, contraception, minor surgery and more.
You can find full details of the services we provide on our Services page.
If you are unsure which service you need, please contact the reception team who will be happy to help direct you to the most appropriate care.
